other night i happend to ask for acarcia strain, and got told its too heavy.. as if dj's dont even take requests of like 10 people. The music in oxygen

but my main point is 'Industrial'; what the heck is 'Monkey Say, Monkey Do..' , if you want Industrial - Barnsley has plenty industrial estates for you to visit.

now we all know about the state of 'The Room' its become a peado's Dream! But why has it not been shut down yet? and why the heck are some few civilised people drinking there?? ugh sum1 bring Garry Glitter darn to Room

so basicly, play some decent music before everbody gives up, play something new but not industrial - new metal appears daily, so why resort to 'Monkey's?

i ant been out for god knows how long now so i dont know the state of oxygen now days.

as for the room its not so much them all being fresh from the sack to be fair i was about 13 or 14 wen i started going out.main difference being when we were that age we spoke to everyone and knew most people out ,but now days the new kids just stick to there own kind type thing so if you dont own skinny jeans and have hair covering one eye they wont even look at you.

I agree with Rachael. Most people who are now old enough to drink in the room still started out drinking there between 13-16. I know I can not complain about underage kids in the Room when I used to go there after college when I was 16 with my mates and have the odd drink.

I think the only difference (ignoring music and management) is the attitudes. When we were younger we all socialized, talked to everyone no matter what age and it really was like a mini community, everyone knew everyone. However about a year ago it was like the kids started acting like they owned the place, they just took it over and would not talk to anyone outside their own group and the adults got fed up and went to other places to get away from them.

As for the music scene in Barnsley, I do get fed up of hearing the same softcore shit over and over again. Variety would be nice. I would not mind listening to the odd lighter song if they also mixed in different genres (and by that I don't mean drum and bass and 80-90's classics - Yes the room I am talking to you)

I went to the room Friday. I do not usually go out been a recluse and all but... I enjoyed it for the most part.

But the DJ only plays music to make the majority happy. For instance playing the RnB shit and some really shitty new age cheez songs. When everyone went and it was only the truly hardcore partiers left (this was at like 2) the DJ put some Slipknot (more old then new), SOAD and Old lost prophets. And some of the scene fags were like... WTF IS THE SHIT.

But yea. A GOOD metal night is needed. That plays a varity of metal. Not jsut slipknot with a bit off screamy generic metalcore. I mean a varity of METAL.

Apart from that I get served without been asked for my ID every 5 mins. But then again, everyone does. I knew some 16 year olds who were leather faced. quite amusing really.

thats the problem, their idea of 'the good metal stuff' is always the same. Slipknot, SOAD, RATM, Metallica, Trivium etc.
They seem to think there are only 10 metal bands in the whole universe with them always playing the same stuff.

Whats wrong with Alestorm, Carcass, Strapping young lad, Exodus, Necrophagist, Agalloch etc

Not to mention not always playing a band's biggest hit. I mean bands like Disturbed (4 albums) and Pantera (9 albums) have a great back catalog and yet I never hear more from them than Down with the Sickness and Walk.

I agree with it all... And alot of peoples comments

(BUT we need abit of industrial :P I'm sure everyone would agree to this... if they played abit of everything, apart from the emo shite obviousley, it would make it a better night)

the reason industrial has been played is because people here have aske for it. the problem i have as a dj in ox is that when i play something thats not mainstream the majority of the crowd leave. i do listen to what im asked to play and eveyone who bitches about the lack of hardcore dont have a fing clue. since i started the night ive dedicated the first hour and a half of the night to hardcore and new tracks. but no one comes in till i start playing mainstream. i dont think that playing pendulum on a rock night is the right thing to do but its regularly the most popular tracks of the night. i tried playing a mix of music and then get shut down early because it empties . i need to keep the floor busy as much as possible to keep managment happy. i finance the nigh myself to give everyone somewhere to go. i try to find tracks im asked for within 2 weeks. ive put posts here to ask for requests with no replies. i did not say acarcia strain was too heave.. i said it was too heavy for the style of music i was playing at that time. the only group i feel i have let down is the punk crowd which i am trying to remedy now. comercial rock is all that most people seem to be interested in. i have to play to the majority to try to keep the night open for everyone. it would be easy for me to say fuck it and shut down the night but i keep going down there and buying music because the MAJORITY of people want it and im not gonna let the MINORITY run the night. if im asked for industrial ill play industrial because im asked. i play real industrial as wel as comercial. cubanate, front 242, and others that not a lot know of. it empties the place. yet pendulum fills a floor. you tell me how to keep a night open. fill the floors and till or play to a few dedicate fans in an empty club with empty tills. you decide

Jason we have had the same problem for years as you know if we do our job and play the music that gets the crowd to come back time after time and get the people dancing (i.e. a dj's job is to get people dancing) then you get a small number of very vocal muppets who whine that we don't play music for them and it is shit and no one should go out, the problem is most people who are into rock are into a small genre of it, i for example am into classic rock i hate this screamo crap that some people are into but it is their choice, so when they go out they never get a full night of their music unless they go to a dedicated night which tend to be few and far between as they simply don't make enough money to run every week. The only way we have any kind of rock night is by playing alot of mainstream stuff with a little bit of everything thrown in where you can. It is easy for people to sit here and say that we should do this and should do that but until they can run a succesful night (that means making money) they should shut up cause at some point the dj's are going to get fed up of being slated for doing there job and getting people in and having the bar take money and will fuck it off so then there won't be a rock night at all and everyone will have to sit in the room with the kids.

While the repetition of the same particular song by each band does my head in the sad truth is that catering to the mainstream is the only way any attempt at a rock night seems to sustain itself around here, and even then they gradually die out and we're left with nowhere again. It's happened over and over again since the days of Regents Park for fucks sake. The reason you get a poor amount of variety is as opposed to somewhere like Corporation is because Barnsley simply doesn't have a large enough demographic for this kind of thing to keep a large going, much less three rooms playing different stuff like Corp does. And it isn't going to change anytime soon either, so you'll all have to grin and bear it I'm afraid. Sorry.

Well i personally like most kinds of rock, so as long as there is variety I am happy. its just hearing the same songs and bands over and over again which drive me crazy, as I am sure each band has more than one song which can get people on the dance floor

Look i wasnt tryna have a personal dig at you Jason, i was simply saying it was better when we had more choice over music, nowadays dj's dont accept the kinda metal myself and friends listen to, i havent heard ion dissinance or decapitated played in any venue in forever! More people are choosing to stay in and listen to music they wont play in town.. i know the floor and tills were never empty when it was Adam n Daz/Stu.

and what im sayinig is that i do cater for you and your friends. at the begining of the night. ive told evryone time and time again that if you bring your own cd il do my best to play it. last time you asked for arcasia i played it 3 songs later and you walked out. and if it was never empty before why did they cancel it? as a dj i try to play everything. i dont personally like scremo/hardcore but i do play it. for me to play it mid comercial session to please a few would let down the rest of the crowd. just to prove it i played a hardcore set in the middle of last week and it emptied the place to the point that we shut at 3 for only the second time. the first time was due to hardcore as well. even when i do play it during the night i only ever get at max 3 or 4 people on the floor yet the comercial "shit" as you like to call it will fill it. its hard for me not to take it personal when your post is calling for my replacment in the night that i fought to put on for everyone. even gib said the night wasnt worth putting on but i pursuaded managment to put the night on by doing it for 6 weeks for free. im a pro dj working in other venues as well playing different styles on different nights and 6 weeks free is over £700 investment. plus the cash prize for halloween is comming out of my pocket. what have you ever contributed to this comunity ? how much time and effort have you nvested. from flier design, promo video screen animation and djing i put a hell of a lot of effort into a night for everyone not just you and your friends.
